Day 10 - Calm Before the Storms - May 19, 2019

After the effort we expended the previous two days, we took this day to gather ourselves and prepare for the marathon that Monday was setting up to be. We spent most of the day at the hotel before holding a briefing.

All of the ingredients were coming together for a significant outbreak on Monday. Plenty of instability and moisture would be in place beneath ample wind shear. The SPC was so confident in the setup that they were issuing Moderate risks three days out. It was likely that they would go High risk for the first time in two years for Monday’s event.

There was one complicating factor for us, though. We had to return the van to Martin by Tuesday noon at the latest. This set some artificial limits on our chasing. We couldn’t get too far west and we had to break off at dusk. Even then, we were facing a very long drive home overnight.

To prepare for this, we went into Oklahoma City and had a steak at Cattlemen’s Steak House in the stockyard district. I am sure that some would dispute this statement, but I believe that Cattlemen’s prepares the finest steak I have ever had. Many of the students agreed after all was said and done.

Yes. Sir.

We returned to the hotel and prepared for the long day ahead.
